I like Tattersall’s overview but notice a few surprises. For one the consensus view, as far as I understand it, dates the perfect upright walk to the Australopithecines 4 Ma ago while he places it with the genus Homo at half that age. Secondly cultural evolution slows down and even reverses in small populations while he claims the opposite.
