I’m still convinced that early Neolithic people did not have the means to transport and exchange staple foodstuffs in bulk. So if grain becomes visible as food, as Cristiani et al. seem to demonstrate, something else must be going on.

The exceptional human capabilities of effortless pattern recognition are frequently seen as the root of both superstition and religion, so to understand the latter it is worthwhile studying the former. This is why I have categorised Evans et al. as religion in my own archive.
